Mapusa, 15 August 2024 – Dr. Ambedkar English High School in Cunchelim, Mapusa, marked India’s 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and a profound sense of national pride. The event, held on the school premises, was honoured by the presence of Ms. Amelia Ferrao, Co-founder and Chief Co-Ordinator of PACT Foundation, as the chief guest.
The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by the singing of the national anthem. The students, dressed smartly in their uniforms, stood united, embodying the theme of the day: “Unity in Diversity.”
In her address to the students, Ms. Amelia Ferrao delivered an inspiring speech emphasising the importance of unity in a diverse nation such as India. She shared a story illustrating the strength that comes from standing together, likening it to India’s diversity, which is its true strength. “In unity, there is strength,” she declared, encouraging students to embrace one another’s differences and work collaboratively towards a brighter future for the nation.
Ms. Ferrao also highlighted the significant contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, after whom the school is named, reminding everyone of his tireless efforts to ensure equal rights and opportunities for every citizen of India, regardless of their background.
The event was a blend of patriotism and cultural diversity, with students showcasing their talents through various performances, including patriotic songs and dances that reflected the spirit of the day.

Last year, the foundation upgraded the school’s infrastructure as part of the “Happy School Project,” a testament to their commitment to improving the educational environment in North Goa. The foundation, co-founded with her life partner Dr. Ashwin Fernandes, is dedicated to bringing positive change to Goa’s educational landscape.
The Independence Day celebration concluded with a pledge by both students and teachers to uphold the values of unity, respect, and love for the nation.
